What are you doing this summer?
Teachers are asked this questions tons--What are you doing this summer? I hope when people ask you that question your answer is, "I'm taking care of myself." Teaching is not for the faint of heart. Summer is a good time to practice listening to your heart and body and meeting your needs.
It truly takes practice to learn how to take care of yourself. Sometimes it takes baby steps. For example, sometimes I ask myself what is one thing I will put in my mouth today that will nourish my body? OR What can I do for the next 5 minutes that will feel good or help me reach my goal? WARNING: Here is the number one thing that will sabotage your self care. . . shame. It will get you every time. It's important to be honest, but don't let yourself get trapped in the shame cycle. I have a third bedroom that collects everything that doesn't have a home. I feel guilt about how the space is a wreck, and it's not functional. Recently realized that if I had just spent 20 minutes a week over the past year picking up a few things, the room would look great. I was paralyzed at a heart level by fear. No matter what self care looks like for you this summer, do what makes you the most amazing you that you can possibly be. GO FORTH, BRAVE TEACHER, AND TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! |

Crafternoon Corner
I adore crafty projects that improve the quality of my life. And who can't use a little beauty in their life? Last summer I took a plain spiral notebook and give it some pizazz by adding magazine images that I combined into collages. It makes a great little summer journal or idea notebook.
