When you enter a challenging or charged situation are you pouring water on the fire to diminish it or are you pouring gasoline to cause an explosion?
Here's the kind of situation I'm thinking of--you encounter a friend or coworker or family member who has a beef with another person--do you say something like, "Well let me tell you what I heard they did to so and so."--adding gasoline. OR Do you say nothing or something like, I'm really not interested in talking {or gossiping} about other people. Let's talk about something else/ How can I encourage you?--adding water.
I've had my share of adding gasoline to the situation. Quite frankly, it's usually more fun and less awkward. I've never felt good about this longterm, even if I enjoyed it in the moment.
Let's challenge ourselves to show up today with a bucket of cool refreshing water!
