Know your limits
This is especially true in connection to our power to impact students and their life circumstances. We are conditioned to believe that if we are good teachers that all the other factors in our students lives will magically disappear, and they will learn everything easily as we teach. This conditioning is very defeating to the brave work of brave teachers.
Know your limits! This doesn't mean that we don't give our best, but we invest within our limits.
The gift of this element is that we are freed up and empowered to really change it up within our framework. We are not investing energy where it is lost but rather where it can really effect change.
For me I'm always learning about this. My limits are also moving frequently. Sometimes I'm catching up, and other times I'm slowing down. Some areas where I'm often dealing with this element is with student behavior, standardized testing, and the expectation of my supervisors and my students' parents.
How does knowing your limits empower you, brave heart?
