Who Is Bending Your Ear?

Something to write about or think about today:

Who is bending your ear? To whom are you listening? Are you allowing the negative or the positive voices to be heard in your heart and life?

When someone is critical or harsh, my inclination is to allow that to soak into the deepest part of myself. When someone speaks in complimentary and positive terms, I'm quick to dismiss it. "Oh, it was nothing." "It's not a big deal." I resist letting that good just soak into my pores and deep into my heart. These two processes should be reversed.

This is Fresh Thinking for me. Changing this mindset is a long, slow, and intentional process.

Do you have an advice or support for those of us who want to be more open to the good and more quickly release the negative?

Enough: The Not So Secret Mission

Dear, dear heart,

YOU ARE ENOUGH!

If I could place a tattoo on every heart of every person, that is exactly what it would say. I think we would all be spared so much if we really knew this.

Since I can't travel the world with my little tattoos, I'm embarking on a not so secret mission. I've been thinking about this for a while. Few things give me a bigger boost than receiving snail mail. I loooovvvee it! So here it is:

I want to send you a brave love letter by snail mail!

Here's all you need to do:
email me your name and snail mail address.
And, voila!
I will send you a lovely little message. (I will promptly dispose of your snail mail address. This is not some ploy to get an address list.)
So, go ahead, start sending those addresses to me. I can't wait to pop a love note to you in the mail!
You are so dear and precious. There will never be another person who brings to this world what you do! I'm honoring that in you today.

I am accepting addresses through Valentine's Day, so don't delay.

The Feeling of Courage

Something to write or think about today:

What does courage feel like?
How does your body feel and your heart feel when you are being brave?

For me it's often an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach--a mixture of butterflies and nausea. I am simultaneously seeing the world with heightened senses, and if I'm in a fog. I used to shy away from the discomfort of these feelings all the time. Now I recognize them for what they are, and most of the time I keep moving forward.

I'd love to have you share your thoughts in the comments. Other people have the chance to gather courage and strength from your experiences, too!

Watch Something Grow

Here's a self care tip, precious heart:

Plant something and watch it grow!

It sounds so simple, and it take a while, but it's a great way to lift the spirits.

At the beginning of January I planted some bulbs, and just this week they blossomed. Just having something green and growing is enjoyable, and not too time consuming. If you live in my growing zone, this is a great time to plant seeds to eventually plant outside in late May/ early June.

Another great way to take care of yourself is by giving yourself some time and encouragement by coaching with Brave Teacher Mim.

Dear Brave and Strong Teacher,

Teaching is a challenging and complicated job and way of life. I know--I do it! This is a challenging time of year to be a teacher--it's winter, the pressure toward high stakes testing is building.
