Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself. Desiderius Erasmus I totally love the way natural light adds patterns and movement to any surface it touches. I took this picture of early morning light streaming in my window this winter. It makes me think about how important it is to keep a soft and open heart so that light in the world around me can add movement and patterns to my life.
![]() As the years pass I am more convinced that teaching is an inside job. . . It starts with the teacher. . . taking care of herself of himself. . . and then turning the abundance of that work into the fuel to ignite the minds of students. I believe this is true for all teachers, regardless of subject matter or age of students. I believe that teaching is a spiritual practice. I believe teachers must act from love not fear. I believe that we have forgotten this, and so we teachers are broken and we work in a broken system with a broken paradigm. I believe the transformation begins with me. This quote just makes me think and think and think. . .
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. {Albert Einstein} Once you've had some time to chew on that one, I'd love to hear your thoughts in connection to education, life, love, parenting, the new year, whatever! Happy New Year, Brave One! I love every fresh start. That is one good thing about being a teacher. We have 2 new years every year--January and August/September. {If you teach something else you might even have more fresh starts!} I'm so delighted to start this new year on a personal retreat of creativity, spa treatment, and mindfulness. {Of course it's going to be a bit of a shock when we are back in the routine on Monday, but c'est la vie!} How are you marking your new year? Do you have a ritual? Do you have a special word? You can go to my blog HERE to find out what is going on with my word |
